Application

All the applications are eligible on condition that the applicants are either final year students or graduates and the applicants who have the following requirements will be accepted.

  1. Those who have a foreign nationality,

  2. Those who were born as Turkish citizens but later were permitted by the Ministry of the Interior of Turkey to leave Turkish citizenship, including their underage children who are registered in the document of leaving Turkish citizenship and who can certificate that they have the document regarding the Exercise of Given Rights, pursuant to the Turkish Nationality Law, (The 7th article of the Turkish Nationality Law numbered 5901 prescribes that “(1) an infant born from the marriage of a mother or a father having Turkish citizenship inside or outside Turkey is a Turkish citizen”; applicants who would like to apply for the quotas of foreign admission should further review the Turkish Nationality Law.)

  3. Those who used to have a foreign citizenship but later have acquired Turkish citizenship/those who have a dual citizenship under these circumstances,

  4. Amongst the articles below:

    1. Those who have Turkish citizenship and have completed the last three years of their secondary education in a foreign country except Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) (including the applicants who completed their secondary education in Turkish schools in a foreign country except TRNC) before 01/02/2013,

    2. Those who started and completed their secondary education in a foreign country except  Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) after 01/02/2013 (including the applicants who completed their secondary education in Turkish schools in a foreign country except TRNC),

  5. Those who have TRNC citizenship, reside in TRNC, have completed secondary education in TRNC and have obtained GCE AL degrees (The General Certificate of Education – Advanced Level), and those who have or will have GCE AL degree after registering and getting education in the colleges or high schools in other countries between 2005 and 2010.


  • Applicants must carefully fill in the Application Form online at http://yos.istanbul.edu.tr by using Application System between the application dates to get their Applicant Number.
  • The responsibility of the consequences resulting from misinformation while filling the application form belongs entirely to the applicant.  When filling the sections related to identity information in the form, the identity information of the applicant must not be changed or contracted.

  • The e-mail address required in the application form must belong to the applicant and every applicant must provide only one e-mail address. The e-mail address in question must not be used for correspondence or transactions on behalf of other applicants.

  • To access the Application System later, email address of the applicant will be used as the username.

  • The digital version of the applicant’s self-photo must be attached to the relevant section on the application form. As this photo is going to be printed on the Examination Admission Document and the Examination Result Document, the photo must be taken in the last six months and from the front view, ensuring that the applicant is easily recognizable. The applicant must avoid making significant changes in his or her appearance in a way which can make him or her less recognizable on the exam day. It must be taken into consideration that if the Head of the Examination Hall finds difficulty in recognizing the identity of the applicant, s/he has the right to exempt the applicant from the examination.

  • Once the application is filled and saved, an applicant number is going to be sent to the applicant’s e-mail address by the system.

  • The Applicant number can only be acquired once. As the applicant number will be necessary both for the examination and for all the transactions to be made with İU virtually, it must be kept carefully.

  • After being given an applicant number, it is obligatory to indicate the “Applicant Number” in all kinds of correspondence carried out with İU. The petitions lacking the Applicant Number are not to be put into effect.

Category 1

For the applicants who take the examination in Turkey, Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Iran, Qatar and Saudi Arabi

     250 TL (Two Hundred Fifty Turkish Liras) or

Category 2

For the applicants who take the examination in the USA, Australia, Canada, Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, South Korea or Malaysia

Category 3

For the applicants who take the examination in Brazil, India, Pakistan, Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Greece, Georgia, Kazakstan, Kirghizstan, Mongolia, Russia, Tatarstan, Tajikistan,Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan

     100 TL (One Hundred Turkish Liras) or

     30 $ (Thirty American Dollars) or

     30 € (Thirty Euros)

Category 4

For the applicants who take the examination in Algeria, Djibouti, Morocco, Egypt, Mozambique, Niger, Somalia, Nigeria, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Afghanistan, Romania and Ukraine

Please do not forget to have this information written as the description during the payment process!

During the payment process do not forget to have your applicant number written on the bank receipt as the description . After paying the exam fee, do not forget to upload the image of your bank receipt and the page of your passport showing your identity information by logging in the system. The applicants who will apply from abroad will be able to pay the examination fee through a correspondent bank or through banks working internationally.

The following points must be taken into consideration while paying the examination fee inside or outside Turkey:

  •  The amount sent by an applicant is considered as a paid fee only after the sum is transferred to the relevant account. The examination fee must not be sent as a private cheque, or in an envelope, or as a postal cheque or through similar means.
  • The amount to be charged by the bank in return for the money transfer service must be considered separately from the examination fee.

  • The applicants who have paid the application fee should carefully check the bank receipt before leaving the bank and have the mistakes corrected if there are any.

İstanbul University Foreign or Overseas Students Exam (International Student Exam) – (İÜYÖS) is an examination taken by foreign or overseas students who wish to study at İstanbul University. The results obtained from this exam can be used for applying for İstanbul University (İU) foreign or overseas students’ quotas. This examination is conducted by Istanbul University.

İÜYÖS 2017 will be held on April 29, 2017 Saturday at 15.00 pm according to the local time of Turkey.

For the İÜYÖS examinations which will be given outside Turkey, the hours are announced on the official website of the university, which is http://yos.istanbul.edu.tr

İÜYÖS, will be given at the same time in all exam centres.
